The antibacterial effect of D-cyclosine is to inhibit the biosynthesis of cell wall peptide polysaccharides, because it is a structural analogue of D-alanine, which competes with D-alanine to inhibit two important enzymes in the process of peptide polysaccharide synthesis - alanine cyclotase and D-alanamide-D-alanine synthase.
